FrostBit took part in two projects (Mobiilisti Metsään & Metsäinen Innostaa) and created a web page as well as a mobile version of the Metsäinen -information service. The purpose of the services is to share information about forestry. The projects are based on the need to provide active and high quality forest management in Finnish forests.
The web page serves as a huge data bank for forestry in Finland and is kept up to date by the Finnish Forest Center. The mobile application includes many features such as an event calendar, a database, as well as nature trails utilizing the database. In order to add more trails and maintain them, FrostBit also created a separate nature trail editor, which enables adding trails to the mobile application remotely.
The objective of the forest projects is to establish a high quality forestry in Finnish forests. Due to forestry, the forests in Finland provide income to the forest owners and raw wood materials for wood processing industries. The mobility of the raw wood material, securing the acquisition amounts and planting new wood support the functions and investments of the forestry industry. A priority in these projects is also to make the forest owners’ voices heard in the planning processes of forestry actions.
These projects are beneficial to many groups related to forestry in Finnish Lapland, and the translated versions of the mobile applications can also benefit international people interested in Finnish forestry.
